Chair Up in Questions
How can I fix an office chair that is now too low and won't "pump" up higher? I am going to nursing school (at age 56 of all things!) and have an office chair that I paid a lot for back in 2000. Yes, I know it is old now and needs to be replaced, but just can't afford to do it. The height used to be adjustable but now it is down as far as it will go and will not raise up any higher. It is killling my shoulders to do homework at my desk because now the desk is too high because my chair is too low. Make sense I hope? Is there any way to fix this chair so it will be higher? I even thought of a platform to raise the whole chair up but it is just not feasible to do that. Does anyone have a remedy, I hope? And thanks for your help! have tried and tried to figure out how to respond to your answers. don't know if this is it or not,,,,but ... am in texas. too far to exchange but was a really good idea! maybe i need to look into the pillow thing.

g_dyna replied: "Pillows or phone books would be my suggestion."

dwilmoth822 replied: "Well, I have the opposite problem. Mine is too high and I can't lower it. Tell ya what, let's exchange. Do you live anywhere near NC?"

niceguy replied: "you should be able to lay it on its side raise it up and drill a hole through the post and insert a pin there. hope it helps"

sb r replied: "the loss in compression is due to bad washer replace it so that it starts functioning"

I'm worried about my kids moving a chair up to the banister surrounding the railing around my basement stairs!? How can I babyproof the top of the railing! It's about three feet tall (hip level on an adult) and I'm petrified that they'll stand on something and go over the top onto the basement stairs below. I'm even afraid when I'm carrying them past the railing that they'll squirm and somehow go over the railing! What can I do to babyproof the railing? Thanks!

Bag replied: "Remove the chair?"

Caitlin/Mommy2B :] replied: "I wouldn't worry about it too much, but if you want to baby proof it anyways I had read up on some ideas when i was thinking my little one would do it! You can get some chainlink fencing and put it up to the ceiling from the top of the railing. Another is to get some plexy glass and do the same thing. You have to be kind of creative with your rigs. But if you don't care about the appearance, just safety, the chainlink fence will be easier to hang securly and probably cheaper than plexy glass."

dsj312 replied: "maybe secure a piece of plywood from your banister to the ceiling to make a wall there. I have this exact same problem in my house. my sons room is actually a loft, so part of the wall is open . he is only 3, but i am also very worried thinking about the possibility of him climbing over the edge and falling down to the down stairs....my landlord has molding attatched to the ledge where we can secure a piece of plywood to cover the open space, and we will be doing that soon enough. good luck!"

seamstress replied: "Temporary fix: Remove anything the child can move to stand on causing them to topple over the railing and down the steps. While carrying a child, switch him to the opposite hip, away from the railing. Permanent fix: Remove the railing and install either a half wall or a full wall, if possible."

jilly3 replied: "i also have a railing like that, and 3 children who have never come close to falling over it.Just make sure they know that it is dangerous and remove any things they could climb onto if you are still worried.but really, they are smart enough to know better.."

Hurf replied: "To climb over when I cant find a ladder..."

Roxx replied: "To reach something higher on the wall. To place a child in temporary time-out. To make sure noone is behind them due to paranoia. To get it out of the way to sweep or vacuum. To get it out of the way to make room to dance, play twister or have more standing room for a party."

10SC replied: "Ok I've been trying to come up with an answer that hasn't been taken already but I got nothing. Roxx got 'em all! LOL"

Joe U replied: "Well, that's better than the little kids eating with their hands in the food, and at least you were going to drink the gravy instead of putting it into your water pistol."

Hold a chicken in the air, stick a deck-chair up your nose Buy a Jumbo-Jet, and then bury all your clothes Paint your left knee green, then extract your wisdom teeth Form a string quartet, and pretend your name is Keith. Skin yourself alive, learn to speak araphahoe Climb inside a dog, and behead an Eskimo Eat a Renault 4, wear salami in your ears Cassarole your gran, dis-embowel yourself with spears The disco is migrating, the sound is loud and grating It's truly nausiating - let's do the dance again.. Hold a chicken in the air, stick a deck-chair up your nose Buy a Jumbo-Jet, and then bury all your clothes Yes you'll hear this song, in the holiday discos And there's no escape, in the clubs or in the bars You would hear this song, if you holidayed in Mars Skin yourself alive, learn to speak araphahoe Climb inside a dog, and behead an Eskimo Now you've heard it once, your brain will spring a leak And though you hate this song you'll be humming it for weeks
